A few weeks ago, with Wolfenstein far enough back in the rear view mirror, I thought it would be fun to dive into Spear of Destiny.

Spear of Destiny was a proper expansion, standing as its own install. The version I bought on GOG comes with a bonus trilogy of episodes, called The Nocturnal Missions, that were originally released as an add-on, but ultimately they just kind of felt like a map pack with some new textures and layouts that were too labyrinthine for my tastes. It felt like just enough fun for what the game provides. The original game was released as 3 episodes, which I enjoyed. It's pretty much what you can expect from Doom's predecessor, just a run-and-gun shooter with cool guns and a few secrets here and there. To my surprise, it was actually pretty fun, and a bit enhanced if you read the "story" in the manual. The old /r/patientgamers Essential Games ListĮarlier this year I decided to give Wolfensetin 3D a whirl when it went on sale over at GOG.
